For very young children, play is the language of healing. In a child-centered play therapy approach, children are trusted to be the experts on themselves as they heal through play. Mary also uses Sandtray-Worldplay to help clients of all ages process trauma.

Child-centered play is most commonly used with children up to 10. However, play therapy techniques can be used for healing at any age.

Mary is currently pursuing her Registered Play Therapy credential and practices under the supervision of a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor.

Therapy sessions take place at Heartstone Guidance Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Individual Talk Therapy

For adolescents and adults, I provide individual talk-based therapy. I offer in-person therapy for all ages, and telehealth therapy for ages 14+.

I believe that the person in front of me is the true expert on themselves and their stories, and view my role as a collaborator. My approach is grounded in a Person-Centered approach, with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Radical Feminist Theory, and Mindfulness-based approaches. I also often use Sandtray Worldplay with clients of all ages to help process trauma.
